I’m always striving to lower the wall between design and implementation.  In BI, this means taking as much of the data architect and business analyst’s work and applying it directly to the data management process (without the developer or administrator middlemen).  Here’s some opportunities:

BI is built on a foundation of data.  Therefore, testing in BI requires test data, and that means we’ve got to get it from somewhere!

I’ve seen two general strategies here:

Big data has had its fair share of limelight this year. But with the emergence of this new capability, what changes will be left in its wake? One may be a stronger demand for the role of data scientist. If this is your first time hearing this title, don’t be alarmed. As of March 2012 about 300 people on LinkedIn held this title. Currently, Wikipedia does note have a dedicated page discussing this role.
